MY PARENTS....
Today Nick and I went for a ride up to my parents house in Douglas Flat, CA. My parents have been together for fifty-nine years. It breaks my heart to see my father who was a strong man, now he depends on someone to give him a bath, help him eat and pick him up and put him to sleep each and every day. This reminds me of the book "I LOVE YOU FOREVER...".
My Father was and still is my idol... when I was younger everywhere my father would go I would by right behind him. If my dad every said that he was going to the grocery store or anywhere else in the car... I would scream "ME GO, ME GO". My Father did all the grocery shopping when I was growing up, he would work then on his way back home he would stop at Center O Mart. This store was owned by a Chinese family and they loved my father. He would always joke around with them and "talk Chinese". All the ladies would laugh and pat him on the back "oh, David".
My Mother is one strong Irish woman and boy oh boy you don't want to get her mad at you. She has beautiful blue eyes, but when she's mad she can talk with her eyes. My Mother has any different talents like sewing, knitting and making people feel special. I'm blessed with her blue eyes, knitting, sewing when I have time and I love to make people feel special. When I was growing up birthdays were huge in my house, you had your favorite homemade meal with a homemade cake by Mom or Grandma, you got to be the one to pick the television shows of the night and received a couple of gifts. It really didn't matter what gifts they were because MY MOTHER MADE SURE THAT YOUR BIRTHDAY WAS THE BEST EVER..... It's funny because I can only remember a couple of gifts that I received but I can tell you all about fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, angel food cake with whipping cream (my favorite).
Since my father has been sick, my mother has been the rock in the house. She makes sure that the caregivers are taking good care of my father, she's the bill payer, the cook, receptionist for making sure all the doctor's appts. for dad and his medications are full. This Irish woman with her beautiful blue eyes is like a big Blarney Stone that never gives up.
I love these two people dearly and it hurts so bad seeing my father so weak, so thin with his fragile skin on top of his boney structure. Tonight I will ask GOD when he is ready, to please this strong person back to see his parents, his in-laws, his favorite dogs Bubba and Buddy.
